Tim Russ Haddenham
Haddenham is a picturesque village set in Buckinghamshire about 8 miles from the market town of Aylesbury but close to the border of Oxfordshire and the market town of Thame, which is approximately 3 miles away. Steeped in history, Haddenham is one of only three remaining wychert villages or ‘white earth’ as the name is thought to have derived from the traditional building material used.
Due to the diverse types of properties within the village it is often used as a back drop for film or television. “Midsomer Murders” amongst other TV programmes has been filmed around the traditional village pond together with the lanes and footpaths showing their distinctive high white walls. The village is famed for its duck ponds, providing breeding sites for Aylesbury ducks plus St Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital, caring for ill and injured wild animals, is close by.
There is an excellent public transport service with buses between Aylesbury and Oxford town centres and for the commuter the village railway station (Haddenham & Thame Parkway) has trains running between London and Birmingham. Junctions 7 & 8 of the M40 provide good access to London Heathrow and Birmingham airports The village offers a variety of pubs, restaurants and cafes, numerous village shops, a post office and a garden centre.
Haddenham is served by Haddenham community Infant School, Haddenham Junior School and the voluntary aided Haddenham St Mary’s Church of England School. Haddenham is in the catchment area for upper schools in Princes Risborough, Thame and Waddesdon as well as the grammar schools in Aylesbury.
